About Me

ABOUT Liam Kidney, Photographer

With over seventeen years of experience as a professional photographer, my journey through the lens has been one deeply rooted in a passion for capturing moments that last a lifetime. My specialty lies in wedding photography, an area where I've had the privilege to document the union of countless couples, encapsulating their love and joy in timeless images. Based in Athlone, Co. Roscommon, my work spans across Ireland, offering comprehensive coverage of weddings nationwide.

Photography, in all its forms, captivates me. Beyond weddings, my heart beats for the beauty of wildlife, the serenity of landscapes, the dynamic nature of sports, and the personal touch of portrait photography. Since 2010, I have also embraced the role of educator, running courses in Athlone for aspiring photographers at both beginner and intermediate levels. Sharing my knowledge and passion for photography through teaching has been an incredibly rewarding experience.

My personal life is filled with love and inspiration, thanks to my wonderful wife Laura and our two beautiful children, Áine and Seán. Together, we share a love for travel, an adventure that has taken me to the heart of Africa on numerous occasions. There, I've had the unique opportunity to photograph the continent's captivating wildlife and vibrant cultures. My commitment to making a difference has led me to collaborate with the Brighter Communities Charity (formerly Friends of Londiani) in Kenya, documenting their impactful work since 2007. My photographs have been showcased in exhibitions, such as the one in Tuar Ard Gallery in 2015, and continue to support the charity's mission.

As a member of both the Irish Professional Photographers and Video Association (IPPVA) and The Guild of Photographers, I am recognized among peers for my dedication and skill. My work has been celebrated with numerous accolades, including a 4th place in the European FEP Professional Wildlife Photography Awards in 2018, the "2015 IPPA Best Classic Wedding Portfolio" and "2015 IPPA Best Classic Wedding Single Image" awards, a Silver medal from the Irish Photographic Federation in 2014, and the prestigious Travel Photographer of The Year Award in 2009 from the SWPP, alongside several Gold awards.
