I came 4th<\/sup> in the European FEP Professional Wildlife Photography 2018 Awards which this year was held in the Royal Hotel in Bray Co. Wicklow.<\/p>\n

The Federation of European Photographers (FEP) is composed of the national professional associations of\u00a029 European countries.\u00a0 It is the central reference authority for Photography in the EU and it represents over 50.000 professional photographers in Europe.\u00a0 The FEP established the European Professional Photographer of the Year Awards to promote the highest standards in European professional photography.\u00a0 Each year they narrow the best photographers in each category to ten finalists and they announce the winners in reverse order at their award ceremony.\u00a0 This year the award ceremony was held in Ireland for the first time.<\/p>\n

I was a finalist for the first time in the Wildlife category and was absolutely delighted to finish 4th<\/sup> overall in the category.\u00a0 I took some of the photos when I was in Uganda with my wife Laura recently.\u00a0 The photos of the Chimpanzees and Gorilla\u2019s in their natural habitat showed their natural beauty and human like features.\u00a0Chimpanzees as well as humans share over 98 percent of their DNA. \u00a0This is very obvious in the photos below. \u00a0I photographed the chimpanzees in \u00a0Kibale National park as part of a Chimpanzee Habituation Experience. \u00a0It was amazing when one of the Chimpanzees came down from the trees and imitated myself and Laura who had a relaxing snooze in the forrest. Sometimes life experiences are magical.<\/p>\n

We saw the Gorillas in\u00a0the\u00a0Bwindi Impenetrable National Park<\/b>\u00a0(BINP) is in south-western\u00a0Uganda<\/a>. The park is part of the\u00a0Bwindi Impenetrable Forest\u00a0<\/a>and is situated along the\u00a0Democratic Republic of the Congo<\/a>\u00a0(DRC) border next to the\u00a0Virunga National Park<\/a>\u00a0and on the edge of the\u00a0Albertine Rift<\/a>. \u00a0We did two days of trekking and were lucky to see two different family of \u00a0gorillas over the two days. \u00a0It is something I would highly recommend. \u00a0The male Silverback Gorillas are huge. \u00a0On first day two Silverbacks from rival families had a fight and were thumping their chests. \u00a0You could hear the roaring and shouting 50 metres away. \u00a0Impressive stuff!<\/p>\n

I was very grateful to Dermot Byrne who took photos of me with my award after the ceremony.<\/p>\n
